Here is a map of local car parks. Parking in Daventry is usually free. We recommend using P2, the ‘undercroft’, opposite the Leisure Centre which will be open for us. Please avoid the shopping area car parks, which we need to keep free for shoppers, and P3 which will be used by sportive organisers. Thank you. See you on Sunday!
Online entries close at midnight tonight for Sunday’s sportive supporting @mytonhospices and Cancer Research. Entry is available on the day but will be £10 more. Registration opens at 7.45am. See you for a great day in the saddle!
Thank you to everyone who is registering for the 2017 Daventry Cycling Club Sportive – this year all proceeds will be shared between the Myton Hospices and Cancer Research. Here, at long last (with apologies from me for being so slow this year) is information to help you get the most out of the day.
Registration runs from 7.45am. Our Epic riders will be sent off from 8am in waves of 10, Challenge riders from 9.30am, and solo and families on the leisure route from 10.30am. All routes are as always well signed, and we are once again supported with marshalls provided by the charity organisation Northants 4×4 Response to help everyone have an enjoyable and safe journey. For those riders who would like them, garmin links for the Epic and Challenge rides are given below, and a quantity of printed maps with directions will be available to collect at registration.
Solo and family groups will have the option of joining a guided ride, supported by members of Daventry Cycling Club – just let us know when you register.
GPS links follow. Please note that the Strava Epic link is from 2016, and the route has been tweaked slightly – the Garmin link is more accurate if you can use it. (The tweak is tiny, and the signposting and marshalls will ensure you don’t go wrong.) Please note that these are still subject to change in the event of road closures beyond our control. We will be checking the routes late on Saturday, and any changes will be announced as you set off on Sunday.
There are two feed stations on the Epic route – at Abthorpe and Priors Marston – and one on the Challenge route, at Priors Marston.
Rules for bikes and heads
This event is registered and insured with British Cycling, so BC rules apply – in particular your bike must be roadworthy, and you must wear a helmet. There is no exception to these rules. We want everyone to have a good, safe, time.
We have a photographer on the early part of the routes, so keep smiling! Steve Brooks will be out and about, and will upload his photographs to the Daventry Cycling Club website after the event. We will let you know when they have been posted, and you will be welcome to tag yourself. There will be no charge, but we will give you a link to make a donation to our charities if you would like to do so.
If you are driving to the event, there is a map of car parks available. We recommend P2, which is being opened specially for us. Please avoid P15 (parking for shoppers), and P3 (parking for organisers).
For everyone completing the courses there will be a medal, and a water bottle. A small token of thanks for supporting our charity event.
If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to contact us (firstname.lastname@example.org). Above all, have a great day, knowing that your entry fee is supporting some amazing causes. (And don’t forget to treat yourself afterwards to some home made cake courtesy of the Daventry Friends of Cancer Research!)
